From 6 to 16 May, an eleven-day study tour to the United Kingdom was organized by the School of Journalism and Communication, led by Prof. Mike Wong and Prof. Chia Wu. A total of 12 postgraduates gathered in this group and enjoyed not only the visiting experiences but also the British culture.
For the visits of this study tour, it can be described as a combination of different aspects in communication and a real conversation with professionals. People in agencies like Weber Shandwick and VCCP provided their working models and creative works to students and illustrated how to integrate technology into their capabilities and help clients grow better. The visit to the BBC Cardiff Wales provided student with a unique behind-the-scenes look at the world of broadcasting. The energetic discussion about future AI trends in the Oxford Internet Institute sparked intelligence and interests towards utilization of new tools.
The workshop in Victoria and Albert Museum offered students an engaging exploration of creativity in the process of drawing and sculpture making. Additionally, from Dr Martin to Gibson guitar experience store, students got a closer look into how the brick-and-mortar space can be utilised in tandem with other touch points to tell brand stories and create engagement.
Students indeed enjoyed every moment of this trip. The wonderful London city tour includes the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Tower Bridge. Students tasted local food and explored brilliant graffiti art in London. This remarkable trip has become a valuable memory to students and teachers.
April 29 – May 4 2024
Prof. Francis Lee and Prof. Mike Wong led a group of 12 taught postgraduate students to Tokyo for a study tour from 29 April to 4 May 2024. We regularly organize overseas exchange tours every year, hoping to take this opportunity to allow students to visit companies in person.
This is the first year for the School to arrange a study tour to Tokyo. Students were invited to visit Waseda University. They joined a lecture on Japanese media industry given by Prof. Tetsuro Kobayashi from the Faculty of Political Science and Economics. In the following days, students visited Bloomberg L.P., Nikkei Asia, FabCafe Tokyo, and RealCRO, communicating with media workers from various fields. From traditional media to public relations companies, everyone who participated in the tour had a broader understanding of the media industry in Japan.
In addition, students visited different museums such as teamLab Borderless and appreciated advanced technologies including holographic projections, broadening their horizons and experiencing Japanese culture. Although the time was short, everyone made precious memories and established a deep friendship during the journey.
